Quick verdict. The TGA Breeze S3 and Breeze S4 cost exactly the same (£5,195) and share the same 1400W motor, 8mph top speed, 24-mile range, 200kg weight capacity and fully active suspension. The only real difference is the wheels: the S3 has three (tighter turning, more legroom) and the S4 has four (more stable on slopes and cambers). The Breeze X (£5,595) is the 4-wheel S4 with larger all-terrain tyres and more ground clearance for rougher ground. Choose the S3 if you mainly ride on pavements and tight pathways and value manoeuvrability. Choose the S4 if you want maximum stability on roads and uneven surfaces. Step up to the X only if you regularly cross grass, gravel or rough tracks.

All three are Class 3 road scooters with a captain seat, full lighting and indicators, mirrors, a horn, lockable waterproof compartments and ferry compatibility. The decision is not about features. It is about wheels and terrain.

The only question that matters: 3 wheels or 4?

Because the Breeze S3 and S4 are identical on price, motor, range, capacity and suspension, your choice comes down to a single trade-off that applies to almost every mobility scooter: three wheels versus four.

  • Three wheels (Breeze S3) put a single wheel at the front. That gives a tighter turning circle and noticeably more room for your feet and legs, because there is no second front wheel or wider front axle in the way. It is the better pick for kerbside parking, narrower pathways, and anyone tall who wants more legroom.
  • Four wheels (Breeze S4) spread the scooter's weight across a wider, squarer base. That makes it more stable on side slopes, cambered pavements and faster turns. If you ever feel unsteady, lean during turns, or ride on uneven ground, the four-wheel base is the safer, more reassuring choice.

Neither is "better" in the abstract. On a flat, straight road both feel planted thanks to the shared fully active suspension. The difference shows up at the edges: tight manoeuvres favour the S3, awkward cambers and confidence favour the S4.

Where the Breeze X fits in

The Breeze X is not a different machine under the skin. It uses the same 1400W motor, 8mph road mode, 24-mile range and 200kg capacity as the S4. What you pay the extra ~£400 for is terrain capability:

  • Larger all-terrain tyres with deeper tread for grip on grass, gravel and loose surfaces
  • 15 cm ground clearance and a rugged stance to ride over rougher tracks without grounding out

If your daily routine is pavements, shops and smooth roads, the X's extra ability is money you will not use. The S4 already has full suspension and copes well with normal British pavements. The X earns its place only if you regularly cross parkland, country paths, fields or gravel and want a scooter built for it. If that sounds like you, it is also worth comparing against dedicated off-road mobility scooters.

How far can they go, and how fast?

All three Breeze models are Class 3 mobility scooters. In the UK that means:

  • They have a road-legal 8mph mode as well as a 4mph mode for pavements
  • They must be registered with the DVLA (registration is free, there is no road tax)
  • You do not need a driving licence to use one

The shared figures:

PerformanceS3 / S4 / X
Top speed8 mph (road), 4 mph (pavement)
Rangeup to 24 miles
Motor1400 W
Battery24V 50Ah sealed lead-acid, off-board charging

A real-world 24-mile range comfortably covers a full day of errands, a trip into town, or a long seafront ride with charge to spare. If you need to understand what affects that figure in practice, our mobility scooter battery guide explains range, charging and battery life.

For the registration and road-rules side, see do you need to register a mobility scooter with the DVLA and our Class 3 mobility scooters overview.

Comfort, suspension and ride quality

This is where the Breeze range justifies its premium price, and all three share it equally:

  • Fully active, adjustable suspension on every wheel, so the ride stays smooth over kerbs, drain covers and broken pavement
  • A captain seat with armrests and headrest, adjustable for height and angle
  • Lockable waterproof compartments to keep shopping and valuables dry
  • Full lighting, indicators, mirrors and a horn for safe road use

Because the suspension, seat and comfort package are identical across the S3, S4 and X, comfort should not be your deciding factor between them. They will all feel the same on a smooth road. The differences only appear in turning (S3), stability (S4) and rough ground (X).

Transport and storage

These are large road scooters, not folding travel models. At 142 to 148 kg they do not come apart for a car boot and they cannot be taken on a plane.

  • By car: use a vehicle hoist or a ramp into a van or large estate, the same as any full-size Class 3 scooter
  • By ferry: all three are ferry compatible
  • Storage: they need a garage, shed or scooter store with a power socket for off-board charging

If portability matters more to you than road performance, you are likely looking at the wrong class of scooter. See our best lightweight mobility scooters for travel and foldable scooter buying guide instead.

Which TGA Breeze should you buy?

Choose the Breeze S3 if:

  • You ride mostly on pavements and tighter pathways where turning circle matters
  • You want more legroom at the front
  • You are confident on three wheels and want the most manoeuvrable option

Choose the Breeze S4 if:

  • You want maximum stability on roads, cambers and side slopes
  • You sometimes feel unsteady or lean during turns
  • You ride on uneven ground but stick to made surfaces

Choose the Breeze X if:

  • You regularly cross grass, gravel, parkland or rough tracks
  • You want the extra ground clearance and all-terrain tyres
  • You are happy to pay around £400 more for terrain ability you will actually use

All three are excellent, award-winning Class 3 scooters built on the same premium platform. Because the S3 and S4 cost the same, you are not trading money for capability between them, only manoeuvrability for stability. The X is the only one that asks for more money, and only terrain use justifies it.
